Why is this workshop so expensive?

Surely, you must mean “Why is this workshop such a great value?”  We are offering this exciting workshop–13 hours of real life recovery practice with two (2) therapists–for $38. per hour. This is a huge discount compared to normal treatment rates.  Along with our focused workshop, you will also receive group support,  a $25. workbook, and refreshments.    This life-changing weekend may mean the difference between staying married and getting divorced—and most people do not have to take off work to attend.  Are you ready to take the next step in your recovery?

Why do I have to use up a whole weekend?

There are several levels of therapy.  Many intensive outpatient programs require a 2 week, full-time program-during the normal work week.  So you are not only paying for the treatment, you are using sick leave, vacation, or simply not getting paid during the time you are there.

While individual and group therapy sessions are necessary and helpful, you still have to go back to real life in 1 or 2 hours—giving little time to really learn and focus on what you need to do to get sober, stay sober and have a happy life.

In a perfect world, I would refer all my clients to a 30 to 45 day residential program at the beginning of their recovery because it allows you to both work and relax, get intensive psychotherapy, and have the opportunity to practice new behaviors for an extended period of time.  However, most addicts do not NEED that long and cannot afford the $30,000 to $40,000 cost. The weekend schedule is our attempt to reach folks that do need to stop and focus on their addiction and recovery—and need it to be affordable.

How can this help me if I am attending 12 step?

12-Step is designed to give you excellent support, provide real life role models of success, create structure in your life, and a mentor (sponsor) to work on your sobriety and recovery on an ongoing basis.

We give you the opportunity to understand what you are dealing with (a brain disease), learn ways to manage your feelings, and create a dedicated space of time to focus on what you are doing right and what is getting in your way in terms of your individual recovery.

I am gay.  Will this workshop be relevant for me?  Will I be accepted?

We create an accepting environment for all attendees.  Gay men have some different issues (which we will address if you let us know when you register that you are gay).  However, many of the issues are the same.  You are an addict and addiction is an equal opportunity disease.

I am married, single, old, young, etc.  Will I fit in?

Most addiction problems are common to people of all ages, races, and marital status.  Again, if you can let us know your your particular concerns, we can make whatever adjustments in content that are appropriate.

Under what circumstances would I have to have a paid individual session before attending?

If we feel that the issues you discuss with us on the phone might make the workshop a bad choice for you at this time, we would need to see you in person or TALK to your individual therapist and get his/her OK.

Why can’t I just read about this material?

If reading about the material were all it took to be sober and stay sober, you would already have solved the problem.  You will receive written material, but you will also hear relevant information, experience your feelings, practice some of the techniques and talk about your truth.  Information processed with all senses is better integrated than simply reading about it.
